Notice on Political Signs
Political Signs Regulations
- The small yard signs which are normally 18 x 24 inches are allowable as long as they are not placed within a street right of way, such as the outside of the sidewalk or within the applied right-of-way on streets without a sidewalk.
- Any other size of sign must have a zoning permit to verify location and size. It is allowed to submit a permit with multiple locations for the larger signs listed on a page attached to the permit. Please make sure your local inspector verifies the location, size and setback for adherence to the regulations.
The maximum size of such signs is 10 square feet when located in any residential and C-2 Limited Commercial zoning district; and 100 square feet in any other zoning district, C1, Industrial and Ag.

- Signs may be placed no earlier than March 31 and must be removed within 7 days after the election has taken place. The regulations state no earlier than 30 days prior to the election, however now that early voting/mailed ballots is possible, the signs can go up one week prior to the first actual day early voting can occur.
